The primary challenge in this design was enhancing the airboxes’ internal volume to improve flow rate capacity beyond the stock airboxes. Given the compact nature of the G63 engine bay, this was achieved by optimizing the internal height of the airboxes. The cold air feed of the OEM system connects to the airbox with a long flexible duct which is restricted in size. This also leaves little room for the airbox base to shape the incoming flow onto the filter. Airflow has to negotiate a very tight transition from the rectangular filter to the circular turbo inlet positioned to one side of the airbox.
