Whats new at SEMA 2024?

Walk around

We just got back from what petrolheads consider a yearly pilgrimage to SEMA for their 2024 edition. Located in Las Vegas, USA, you’ll find all the top manufacturers and car builders from North America, as well as some from the other parts of the world to showcase the latest car builds and products.

We visited the show to check out these builds and products, here’s what we found…

Toyota GR86 with Corolla (Yaris) GR powertrain

Toyota, yes, actually Toyota commissioned a very special build of their GR86 model. Evasive Motorsports solved one of the biggest problems with the GR86… the arguably weak powertrain. They solved this problem by swapping the flat-four with the Corolla/Yaris GR’s turbocharged 3 cylinder, which, if standard outputs an impressive 300hp. Also swapped in was the front and rear axles to put all of the power down to all 4 wheels.

The GR86 was tastefully modified too, using lots of elements from both the Castrol liveried Celica GT-Four, TOM’s Supra GT500 and top aftermarket brands like AST where their 5300 series competition suspension was fitted, with the remote reservoirs on display.

Other spots

We headed to the Toyo Treadpass, too where there were lots of incredible builds, too many to type about in fact so head to the bottom of this post to checkout the YouTube video where we covered out favourites.

Titan 7 wheel spots

Although Titan 7 weren’t displaying, we stumbled across a number of Titan 7 equipped vehicles. Including the Hoosier tyre track tyre launch car, fitted with the new Titan-7 T-M20 in Medalist Gold, as well as Honda Racing Corporation Integra Type-S sporting the Titan-7 T-S5 wheels.

AST booth

With many other suspension manufacturers taking a break from SEMA this year, it was awesome to see AST at the show, and sharing the news on some new products.

Before we get into the new product releases, lets talk about the display car. AST has on display a ‘858 CSL’ which is a custom, 1-off carbon body kit, S85 equipped 8 series restomod built by Reyn Speed Shop, featuring a MOTON 4-way coilolover setup with low and high speed rebound, and high and low speed compression for the ultimate in damping control.

MOTON front axle lift kit

You’ll have seen us using the Stance Parts air lift system on a customers G87 M2, MOTON are now manufacturing their own kit, which is due to be available in the coming months.

MOTON 2-way internal

MOTON have developed a 2-way internal, which doesn’t use a remote reservoir. This kit allows you to adjust the compression and rebound separately on the same knob. Simply pull it up to adjust rebound, push it down to adjust compression. This kit is a value way for customers to get the MOTON 2-way adjustment in a more value-oriented package.

MOTON electronic adjustable damper

MOTON have developed a electronic adjustable damper. This damper can adjust the damping on the fly, and you can configure presets like ‘sport’, ‘comfort’ and ‘normal’ and adjust the clicks as you like.

CSF booth

As always, CSF showcased two truly unique builds. A couple we previewed the week before at CSF’s exclusive Pre-SEMA preview part in SoCal. Debuting were RyWire’s Tesla Plaid-powered Civic EK, and Evolve Automotive’s P65 equipped 1 series, both cooled by CSF.

New CSF products

New releases for this year from CSF include Porsche 964/993 oil coolers, R34 GT-R water radiator, BMW 2002 radiator, engine oil cooler kits and a classic Porsche 4-cylinder engine case oil cooler. We’ll be stocking and listing all of these on our website once they drop!

Wavetrac booth

Playing on the popular overland/off-road converting of cars in recent years, Wavetrac were displaying an overland optimised 996 C4S, showcasing their unique Limited Slip Differentials capability. Built by @996roadtrip, this 996 C4S features the usual combination of a lifted chassis with suspension with more travel to aid ground clearance and add room in the arches for those colossal all-terrain tyres.

As standard, although the C4S has an 4 wheel drive system which is shared with the 964/993/996/997.1 4wd vehicles, its hampered with open differentials in both the front and rear. This means that the wheel with the most traction, can only have as much torque sent to it as the wheel with the least traction can deliver to the ground. This means off-road capabilities would be severely restricted if the open differentials were retained.

The Wavetrac LSDs help by increases what called the ‘torque bias ratio’, from 1:1 to around 4.5:1, which means in the same scenario, the wheel with the most traction, can have up to 4.5x the drive torque sent to it, as the wheel with the lease traction can deliver to the ground. Greatly improving its off-road capability.
