Bilstein B12 is a sport suspension for anyone who wants to lower or raise their car while improving both handling and comfort.
The B12 at a glance
B12 pairs Bilstein high-performance gas-pressure dampers with high-quality performance springs to make a complete, vehicle-specific sport suspension. The result is noticeably more stable, precise road behaviour and a sporty ride height.
A complete suspension for lowering or raising
Tuned in Bilstein's road tests, B12 is for drivers who want to improve both the look and the handling of their car. Unlike many coilover kits, it keeps the OE spring-seat design, so the dampers are made to OE standard, are easy to fit and need no registration. Dampers and sport springs are precisely matched for balanced handling without giving up comfort. For selected vehicles, the B12 ProLift raises the car instead.
Product benefits
Stronger and smoother than the OE suspension: the B12 is a sport suspension for every day.
- Sporty lowering: a fixed drop of up to 50 mm, for a more dynamic look and more precise handling
- Clearly better performance: the best spring/damper combination and optimised damping for better handling
- Made for your car: damper and spring developed together for each vehicle in road trials
- Easy registration with the supplied parts certificate
- Engineered and proven (TÜV) in Germany, developed and made to the highest quality standards
What makes B12 stand out
- Developed for sporty lowering of modern cars as well as modern and classic cars. The lower ride height lowers the centre of gravity, improves handling and stability, and gives the car a much more dynamic look.
- Bilstein B6 or B8 high-performance dampers with the right sport springs make a perfectly matched complete suspension, for more control, safety and driving pleasure every day – even when driven hard or fully loaded.
- Registration is simple with the spring's approval certificate, and the dampers need no registration. The vehicle-specific design means no rubbing in the wheel arches and no fitting problems despite the lower ride height.
- Available for a wide range of modern vehicles, from compact cars to SUVs – so it suits everything from sporty daily use to long, heavily loaded journeys.
- For off-road vehicles and campers it improves performance on unmade roads and, depending on the application, raises the ride height.
- Maximum service life: the dampers go through demanding tests and are optionally available with Bilstein monotube upside-down technology, for better resistance to side forces and consistently high performance.
Where the B12 is used
- Tuning and lowering: ideal for cars that should handle more precisely and look sportier. The lower ride height lowers the centre of gravity and, with the optimised dampers, greatly improves cornering stability and handling.
- Sporty everyday driving: for daily drivers who still want a more dynamic drive – more control, stability and driving pleasure, while staying comfortable on normal roads.
- Modern technology for classics: brings modern suspension performance to classic cars; the balanced damper and spring combination clearly improves handling, stability and safety without changing the car's original character.
- Off-road and campers: the right answer for poor roads and unmade tracks on selected off-roaders and campers, with versions offering a moderate lift for more ride height and stability.
- Heavy loads: even fully loaded the car stays stable and easy to control; the matched damper and spring reduce pitching for more safety and comfort.
Frequently asked questions
Which suspension do you recommend for my car?
The B12 Pro-Kit is a sport suspension kit of four shortened Bilstein B8 dampers with matched Eibach lowering springs, for drivers who want a sporty look and character without giving up too much comfort; the dampers need no registration and come with a certificate. The B14 PSS is a coilover kit with ride height adjustable within a tested range, so you can set the height you want within the stated range; its tuning is sportier, for drivers who want more driving dynamics.
What is the difference between B12 and B14?
The B12 Pro-Kit / Sportline kits are sport suspension kits of four shortened B8 dampers with matched Eibach lowering springs, for a sportier look and character without giving up too much comfort; the dampers need no registration and come with a certificate or type approval. The B14 PSS is a coilover kit with ride height adjustable within a tested range and a sportier tuning, for drivers who want more driving dynamics.
Why does the suspension need enough spring preload?
Preload keeps the spring firmly seated in every situation, even at full extension. Axial play is checked here – an important point, also for roadworthiness inspections.
What is the tightening torque for the cartridge nut on B6, B8 and B12 struts?
130 Nm for the cartridge cap nut.
Do I need special tools to tighten the cartridge cap nut?
Yes – the Bilstein cartridge wrench: part no. 14-244131 (E-MS 08/7) for 30 mm or 14-244148 (E-MS 08/6) for 36 mm.
Is there installation information for workshops?
Dampers are fitted following the vehicle maker's instructions. For air springs and air suspension modules, where the work differs from the OE part, Bilstein provides installation videos and instructions linked to the part number in its online catalogue.
Do you offer electronically adjustable dampers or kits that fit directly and keep the OE function (e.g. DCC, CATS, EDC, PASM)?
Yes – Bilstein offers plug-and-play solutions for many applications, marked "DT" (DampTronic). Whatever the car maker calls its electronic suspension, the catalogue lists the right match.
